George Jones turned 80 final month and celebrated with 3 parties on Tuesday, September 13th. - based Cake shop and Bistro, Frog King Konfections got the opportunity to make a special day cake for his 3 special day parties, the kind of sculpted cake was obvious. The legendary George Jones was nicknamed 'The Possum,' early in his career. The name came from a disc jockey named T. Tommy Cutrer and from Ralph Emery.
According to Jones, it was due to the fact that of an album close that the disc jockeys thought created him look like a 'possum. ' The nickname stuck and if someone hears 'The Possum,' most people shall have knowledge of who they can be talking about. The cake shop supplied biscuits and a 'possum' shaped cake for the special day party at Nashville's Rippy's diner and music venue. Jeanna Bradley and Patti Spain Havlat, owners of Frog King Konfections presented George with his cake, as everyone sang Happy Birthday. Family, friends, supporters and different journalists outlets took part, within GAC's Headline Country.
The cake was shown on CMT Insider, all the regional news channels, multiple net magazines and all over Facebook. Jones' colleagues in attendance included Travis Tritt, Bryan White, Jason Michael Carroll, Billy Yates, Ken Mellons, Guy Penrod, Eddy Raven, Elaine Roy from Bluegrass Duo The Roys, Jamie Dailey from Dailey and Vincent, TG Shepard and Kelly Lang, Guy Gilchrist, Razzy Bailey, David Lee Murphy, Billy Gilman, Billy Joe Shaver, Joe Diffie, Bo Bice, The Kentucky Headhunters, Peter Conlee, Jack Greene, The McClymonts and many others. Jason Michael Carroll recalled his first memory of George Jones. I was on stage, 3 years with my first band, people should still return up to the stage and speak play some George Jones and I'd speak Who? Cause I was raised in an unique strict, Worshipper home. I wasn't allowed to listen to anything but gospel music growing up.
I'll not ever forget first time I should get on stage and sing 'He stopped loving her today' to keep my life. I have grow to a huge fan. So to be a component of his 80th special day party is so exciting. Guests were treated to yummy barbeque, warm wings, nachos and queso, a greens tray provided by Rippy's, and of course, biscuits by Frog King. The 'possum' cake was great and realistic.
It was very detailed and impressive. I am excited to look what else this cake shop can do, spoke about Chris Tatum. The biscuits were delicious. They were creatively decorated. I was most fond regarding the peanut margarine and jelly cupcakes.
Before creating any sculpted cake, the artist researches specifics on the subject. For the opossum, she had to obtain every detail correct, within the simple points on the ears. The opossum cake was completely edible. We created the opossum out of tasty things cake and the log was simple cake. I carved everything and hand-painted the marshmallow fondant to look like fur, spoke about Jeanna Bradley, Frog King Konfections Cake Artist and co-owner.
I am so glad that George and Nancy Jones were pleased with it. After the Rippy's party, 'The Possum' headed to the Grand Ole Opry for a sold-out display and a private special day party backstage. The 'possum' cake was displayed and served at the Opry celebration. The Opry performance included Mark Wills, Carrie Underwood, Jamey Johnson, Joe Diffie, Alan Jackson, The Oak Ridge Boys, Montgomery Gentry, Blackberry Smoke, Eric Lee Beddingfield and many others, paying tribute to Jones. The performance shall space on GAC on October 4th.
It was such an honor to present George Jones with a cake for his 80th birthday. We grew up listening to George and are thrilled to be a component of such an incredible event, spoke about Patti Spain Havlat, co-owner of Frog King Konfections. With over 150 charted singles, Jones is a household name and a living legend. He Stopped Loving Her Today, Simple Lightnin and Choices are just a little regarding the hits.
